Jeremy Musson is an architectural historian, writer and broadcaster who worked for Country Life for twelve years, first as Architectural Writer and then as Architectural Editor. He has a particular enthusiasm for the late-seventeenth-century and early-eighteenth-century English county houses and has visited all the surviving works of Vanbrugh. He is passionate about engaging a wider audience in the marvels and spectacles of the English country house tradition. A former assistant curator for the National Trust in East Anglia, he also presented the popular BBC2 series, The Curious House Guest. He is the author of The Country Houses of Sir John Vanbrugh, The English Manor House: from the Archives of Country Life and How to Read a House. Born in London in 1965, he now lives with his family in Cambridge.Hugo Rittson Thomas is one of the UK's leading portrait photographers. He began his career in the art world, studying at Central St. Martin's and Goldsmiths University of London, and took part in the landmark exhibition Temple of Diana alongside Tracey Emin at The Blue Gallery in 1999. Rittson Thomas photographed Her Majesty The Queen and members of the Royal Household for his book The Queen’s People which was published by Assouline in 2016. He has photographed a number of books for Frances Lincoln including The Secret Gardeners and Secret Gardens of the Cotswolds.

Gorgeous book on the lesser known manor houses of the Cotswolds. Absolutely beautiful photos.
Some of the most beautiful houses that you probably haven’t seen in other books. A very welcome addition to my collection of books on British country houses.

5 Stars!! Wow!! These homes/mansions/estates are amazing! I can’t even imagine what it would be like to call a place that big & that old home! The photography done for this book is incredible! I love looking at historical buildings, the older the better. This book is great for anyone who likes historical buildings, architecture, or a peek at the homes of the wealthy! (It would make a great ‘coffee table book’!) I do wish there were more pictures, but I’d probably be saying that even if the book had every picture the photographer took in it! Just imagining who could’ve walked the grounds and halls of these homes and how they’d be dressed, which era they were in & what secrets those walls hold, stays on the mind for a while! Don’t even get me started on the ghosts these homes must have! So... if you’re looking for a book to pique your interest & imagination, this is a good pick! I definitely recommend this book! The pictures alone are worth checking out & the writing is like an added bonus! It tells about the history of the home & who the owners have been. Some of the rehabs that have been done are also talked about. Since reading this book, I am now looking into visiting England! I’m due for a trip & I’d love to see some of these homes in person!*I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own!*
"Secret Houses of the Cotswolds" looks at 20 country houses, manors, mansions, and castles in this area. The book contained beautiful, full-color photographs of several angles of the outside of each house and of some of the rooms inside the house. The author talked about the history of each house, including who owned the house at various times and the changes they made to the inside and to the area surrounding the house. We also got some stories about what it's like to renovate or live in the house from recent or current owners. Overall, I enjoyed the book and would recommend it to people who are interested in the large, historical houses of the Cotswolds.I received an ebook review copy from the publisher through NetGalley.
