I received my book and have been able to utilize it for about 4 or 5 days now. I have been utilizing other resources from this program for a couple months and have found this book incredibly useful. It can be difficult to visualize the world of “Yol,†but having the book is a great aid to that. This program really provides a great way of looking under the hood to understand the Spanish language, I can can feel the results for myself.The main critique I would have is the relative lack of alternative phrase examples. As someone who already spoke a little Spanish before the program, I find myself sometimes wishing that and alternate form of a phrase be given, especially ones that are very common. For instance, the author really nails down on “I have to leave†being “Me tengo que ir†when (at least in my experience) “Tengo que irme†is far more common. In fact, at one point I tried to use the form that was given with a native Spanish speaker and received a funny look. I understand that he teaches it in that way to be consistent. I don’t know if he gives more alternatives toward the end of the course, but this is just one thing I’ve come across.Overall, a great program and a great book once you get used to the intense mnemonic world-building.
This is an extremely well-crafted language course.In my prior learning efforts I had for instance learned the vocabulary about 10 types of vegetables, but could not state to a native Spanish speaker the appropriate idiomatic expression to say that I had been learning Spanish for 2 years. It takes the same effort to learn the word for "eggplant"' as it does the phrase "he was lonely" , but the second is infinitely more adaptable and useful. It has helped me so much to concentrate on the basic syntax and the words and phrases that comprise the backbone of daily Spanish. Many common phrases are idiomatic and can simply not be constructed from first principles- they have to be learned. This does not refer to slang, but to basic language use. Timothy's podcasts teach and reinforce this. They are fantastic, and this book is an excellent companion to them. I cannot overstate how brilliantly thought-out this language course is.
I purchased volume 1 of this wonderful two volume set as a podcast listener to Accelerated Spanish by Timothy Moser. I have subsequently gone on to becoming a student of this fantastically put together method for learning Spanish. The addition of volume two to the collection has added so much to my ability to learn. While the podcasts are extremely instructive, I find that the visuals of the book add an extra dimension to my way of learning. Being able to see the words and associated images reinforces my learning. I imagine that the construction of such a complete course that offers many different students alternate methods of learning Spanish, was challenging. Timothy Moser has however got it right. I highly recommend purchasing both volume one and two to complement any form of Spanish study, especially Accelerated Spanish through Master of Memory
I’m so grateful that I found this! I have been trying to learn Spanish for an embarrassingly long time. I have tried many different systems and nothing stuck until now. I’m still amazed at how much I learned in a very short time. This is NOT rote memorization that is easily forgotten. I cannot recommend Timothy Moser and his books enough.
This system’s approach will help you learn and retain Spanish or any language system more effectively than any other. The book is a great tool to couple with the online and podcast tools. The visuals may be a little hokey but will do what they intended - stick in your memory and help associate Spanish terms to make them last. Highly recommended.
Great material in a horrible book. This needs to be a kindle book. The use of colored pages for entire chapters gives a headache after reading. Was doing so good but had to stop. Whoever told you this was a good idea was VERY wrong.
Timothy's method of teaching cannot be applauded enough. I've started going through Volume 2 of the podcast, while I read through volume 1 of the book to help make sure I'm up to speed. You can tell that the pace has picked up significantly compared to the first book. However, the same "world" that Timothy creates is still used from the first volume which allows you to continue placing words and images in specific locations in the memory palace.I also appreciate the focus on idioms and connecting words that don't get taught as well in other courses I've been through. I certainly think that you need to practice using the words and whole phrases that he teaches you through writing and speaking exercises. You can use the accompanying website and the podcast audio to help do this. But the podcast was so intriguing and a completely new way of learning spanish that seems to work that I decided to purchase both volumes as well as the kindle version of the first volume.Thanks Timothy!!!
