I have been a full time lampworker for about twenty years. This was the book I needed to open my eyes to completely different approaches to working the glass that I would have never thought of. I've found myself excited about going out into the shop and cutting and gluing the glass etc. and not just the regular blowing and sculpting I have always done. I'm not sure how useful this book would be for a beginner but as a seasoned glass artist it was the inspiration and new directions I was needing. Thank you Lucartha Kohler! I can't believe the information that she gave freely. I would have been tempted to keep so much of the information to myself as "secrets". After all, our glass secrets are how we survive as full time working artists. Obviously, she has already made it and it doesn't matter to her. Again, this is a wonderful book for seasoned artists and might be a little deep for the beginner.

Beginning with a brief history of this centuries-old craft, she then discusses various methods of forming hot glass, presenting them first with an artist's appreciation, and then with simple explanations/directions to imitate the featured technique. The book is richly illustrated and inspiring--I found myself marking several pages with technique I wanted to try.The book is a bargain at this price--it's hard cover, beautifully illustrated in full color, and thick enough to keep you coming back for more.
As an artist working in glass, I found this book to be inspiring and informative. The inclusion of many different artists work expressed the diversity of the medium. It also demonstrates how one particular technique can be used to achieve many different expressions.The technical "recipes," offered in this book are fantastic. They enable one to take an artistic idea, and turn it into reality, with limited experimentation. Sharing this technical information is a brave thing. Thank-You Lucartha Kohler!!!!
